This is a fascinating map of the ancient lands of Gaul as described by the commentaries of Julius Caesar.
This map was created by Nicholas Sanson (1600-1667), who is considered to be the father of modern French cartography. Sanson at one point was a tutor of King Louis XIII.
This map was printed in Paris in 1649 and is in very good condition.
Framed, the map measures 30.5" x 23". The map itself is approximately 23.5" x 16".
