Pair of Machin Dessert Plates, ca 1825
Pottery and Porcelain |
A beautiful pair of hand-painted botanical dessert plates by Machin & Co, circa 1825.
These plates feature the famous “moustache” shape to the border.
For a very long time, this pattern was thought to have been produced by Ridgway, however, research has shown these to be by the smaller Machin & Co, which operated in Staffordshire between 1812 and 1830 and produced wears which rivalled the larger companies such as Spode, Coalport, Ridgway, etc.
Overall good condition with some wear to the border. No chips, cracks, etc.
Measures 8 ½" in diameter.
